Scope
I created the concept, built the space, hired a team, programmed and ran the space with all its different business components and its digital channels.
A/D/O, a reference to Mini’s Amalgamated Drawing Office, was indeed many things in one. Exhibition space for specially commissioned experiential design. Studio space for creatives and designers in residence. Host to our tech incubator. Event space for cerebral programming and less cerebral parties. Retail space for classic pieces, hot new design and our own cohorts’ prototypes. A restaurant by Michelin star chefs Claus Meyer (Noma) and Frederick Berselius (Aska). And another by the local gastro heroes of the uber popular Sunday in Brooklyn. It was a brand space like none ever built. But first, it was a place for people to meet that may not have met otherwise. It was almost always open, it was almost always packed. And, with significant reach and influence inside and beyond the design world, it served as a physical and digital platform for a rich and diverse array of voices. Referenced across industries, it still serves as a benchmark for how a brand can create community and authentically offer resources to those it considers a key target group. I built it in Greenpoint, Brooklyn - at the heart of a thriving creative scene.
In residence, we proudly hosted: the restaurants “Norman” and “Rule of Thirds”, global design leaders Assemble, Studio Ini, Studio Swine, UVA, Steven Burkes and so many more designers & creators, who worked in and with our building.
